Arsenal transfer rumours - Fact or fiction?

The transfer window is in full flow and Arsenal have been a busy club this time around.

Arsene Wenger and co. have heavily featured in the sports columns this summer, concerning the arrival of a number of big name players and the imminent departure of captain Robin Van Persie.

In this article, we are going to have a look at all those rumours and assess the credibility and likeliness of each report.

1. Santi Cazorla

According to latest reports, Santi Cazorla is set to sign for Arsenal in the next 48 hours. The Spanish international is reportedly keen to quit Malaga this summer due to the club’s ongoing financial troubles.

Cazorla was one of the best players in La Liga last season and will surely add immense depth and creativity to Arsenal’s midfield.

At a reported price of £17.3million, the transfer looks like a huge bargain for the Gunners and I surely believe that Cazorla will be donning the Arsenal jersey from the 2012-13 season.

Verdict: Fact

2. Nuri Sahin

Another midfielder that could be arriving to the Emirates Stadium within a few days is Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin.

The former Dortmund star had a disappointing last season with the Spanish giants due to a number of injury troubles and consequent lack of playing time.

With Jose Mourinho keen to send 23-year-old out on loan this term so that the latter could garner some valuable playing time and experience and with Arsenal’s interest looking concrete and real, a transfer could in-fact occur between the two European powerhouses.

Verdict: Fact

3. Robin Van Persie

A FIFA agent has claimed that Juventus have agreed upon a deal to sign wantaway striker, Robin Van Persie from Arsenal.

Fabio Parisi has speculated in an interview that the Serie A giants have already agreed terms with the 28-year-old Dutchman.

“I think Juventus have had a signed contract with Van Persie for some time locked away in a notary’s desk,” said Parisi.

In all fairness, I personally don’t see this as a ‘real’ rumour as Wenger has already stated that Van Persie would be kept at the club until next summer and it is overwhelmingly unlikely that

Juventus would comply to Van Persie’s wage demands £220,000 a week.

Verdict: Fiction

4. Alex Song

According to some reports brewing in Spain, it has been said that FC Barcelona are interested in signing Alex Song as a possible replacement for Seydou Keita.

Even though Barcelona are in the transfer market for a defensive-minded player, it is highly unlikely that the chosen target would be the 24-year-old Cameron international.

The reason is quite simple. The Catalans are short on funds right now and would likely not be able to afford him, plus sign their other targets, and the player seems quite happy at the Emirates.

Verdict: Fiction

5. Andrey Arshavin

According to the Metro, Fulham are eyeing an audacious bid for Arsenal’s playmaker Andrey Arshavin.

The latter has struggled to find form with the Gunners but did impress in his nation’s mediocre Euro 2012 campaign.

Hence, just for the above-mentioned reason, I see Arshavin getting another chance at the Emirates and the rumour of a transfer to Craven Cottage is nothing more than just a rumour. Plus the suggested £1 million transfer fee is no use to Arsenal.

Verdict: Fiction
