The Rothschild Group has appointed Peter Wheeler as an Executive Vice Chairman of the Group and Co-Head of its South East Asia business, effective immediately.

Based in Singapore, Wheeler will jointly manage Rothschild’s Global Financial Advisory business in South East Asia alongside Piers Willis, Co-Head of South East Asia, who has also been appointed as an Executive Vice Chairman of the Group. In addition to his role as Co-Head of the GFA business, Wheeler will oversee the Group’s Wealth Management & Trust business in the region.

Wheeler has an extensive track record in the financial services industry, including a 16 year career at Goldman Sachs, first in New York, then in Hong Kong and Singapore, where he established and headed the firm’s Investment Banking business in Asia (ex Japan), and became a partner of the firm. Most recently, Wheeler was Group Head of Wholesale Banking for Africa, Middle East, Europe and the Americas at Standard Chartered Bank.

The Rothschild Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Higgins, said Wheeler’s extensive business experience and particular focus on Asia and global emerging markets would help to reinforce the Group’s strategy, grow the business further, and serve clients in the region better.

'We have established a leading presence in South East Asia during the past 40 years, and we believe Peter’s strong industry and regional experience will help us to drive further growth in both our Global Financial Advisory and Wealth Management & Trust businesses.

'Our clients benefit from a strong and experienced team on the ground in South East Asia, and seamless access to our global network of specialist industry sector expertise. Peter’s extensive experience in the region and the breadth of his global business relationships will be of great benefit to our South East Asian clients', Higgins said.

Wheeler said he was delighted to be joining one of the world’s leading independent advisory groups.

'Rothschild’s impressive track record in its core sectors and broad geographic coverage, combined with its long-term commitment and independent advisory model, present attractive opportunities for accelerating our growth in South East Asia. I look forward to working with Piers and the team as Rothschild continues to deliver outstanding trusted independent financial advice to clients throughout the region', Wheeler said.
