Carlyle Appoints New Managing Director To Lead Korean Investments

The Carlyle Group announced that Sanghyun Lee has joined as Managing Director. Lee will be based in Seoul and will lead the Korean investment efforts for Carlyle Asia Partners (CAP).

Lee joins from Affinity Equity Partners where he was Managing Director leading the firm’s investment effort in Korea. He has led a number of successful investments in Asia including TheFaceShop transaction in Korea. He was previously at Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) in charge of its private equity investments in Korea. Before that, Lee was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Seoul. Mr. Lee, a native of Korea, was a graduate of Seoul National University and Harvard Business School. He was also a research student at the University of Tokyo.

Carlyle Asia Partners manages three pan-Asia funds and one RMB fund and has a history of 13 years of investing in Asia. CAP makes control and significant minority investments in well established companies across the Asia ex-Japan region. Carlyle has made a number of investments in Korea, including KorAm Bank and Hyundai Communications and Network.
