Standard Bank Strengthens Mining And Metals Team With New Hire In London

Standard Bank Group has recently appointed Michael Starke, as a research analyst, to the growing Mining and Metals team.

Starke joins a global equity research team of over forty people, and will be based in London. The Mining and Metals equity research team (comprising of eight people) collaborates with the Standard Bank commodity analyst team headed by Walter de Wet.

Starke brings with him almost a decade of experience in the resources sector. His main responsibilities will be to support the continued growth of Standard Bank Group’s African resource equity research and to initiate on a range of mining stocks that have their primary assets in Africa. He graduated as a geologist from UCT in 2000 and subsequently worked for Anglo American, a De Beers contract miner and AIM-listed GoldStone Resources.

In 2004, Starke joined the consultancy ERM where he was part of the London-based M&A team performing due diligence across a variety of sectors in the EMEA region. Most recently, Starke worked in the Mining team at Edison, covering a number of mid-cap companies in a variety of commodities.
