Barclays Wealth has announced the appointment of Thomas Roiz as Managing Director and Market Head for Latin America within International Private Bank, Europe, Middle East and Africa (IPB EMEA).

Based in Geneva, he will join the firm in July and will report to Patrick Ramsey, Market Manager Latin America, IPB EMEA and General Manager of Barclays Bank (Suisse) SA.

Roiz will be charged with building out the Latin America strategy and coverage model for IPB EMEA, focusing on each of the Latin America regions (North, Brazil and South). This will include client acquisition, hiring bankers to service the Latin American market and working across all parts of Barclays Wealth to further develop a full product offering tailored to the high and ultra high net worth Latin American client base.

Prior to joining Barclays Wealth, Roiz spent the last two years as Head of Latin America at the Royal Bank of Canada (Suisse) SA, and was the Managing Director in charge of Brazil at Citi Private Bank (Suisse) SA from 2002 to 2009. He has also worked at JP Morgan Private Bank and Union Bancaire Privée during his career.

Commenting on the appointment, Ramsey said: 'Having worked in private banking for over 20 years, Thomas brings a wealth of experience on the EMEA and Latin America wealth management marketplace and will be an excellent asset to the team. This appointment is a key hire in our build up of the Barclays Wealth footprint in this region, and further demonstrates our commitment to accelerating the development of new business in this market segment and desire to establish an industry-leading wealth management business in Latin America'.
