'Lara’s tale is an inspiration to any entrepreneur. Her determination and energy saw her build a highly successful business from scratch, and this book shows how she did it. I recommend it to anyone who has the vision and courage to go it alone'. Luke Johnson, Risk Capital Partners LLP
- Lara Morgan an unorthodox, highly dynamic business woman shares the secrets of how she built a globally-recognized business from scratch and sold it for £20 million
- An inspirational, straight-talking business book about how to grow a small business and optimize sales
- Practical advice for young entrepreneurs looking to start their own business as well as small and large company managers and CEOs
In her first book, More Balls than Most, Lara tells the extraordinary story of how she transformed her company, Pacific Direct, from a cottage industry into an internationally recognised supplier and manufacturer of amenities to world-renowned hotels.
Driven by little more than an unshakeable belief in her skills as a saleswoman and a determination to learn from the best, Lara began her career at the age of 23 on the steps of the Dorchester in London’s Park Lane with a miniature sewing kit to sell. Her naivety in aiming for the high-end of the market resulted in her very first order and an important business lesson: how to use a prestigious client to open doors for new business opportunities around the world. Just under twenty years, several million bars of soap and a portfolio of top brand names later, Lara sold the majority stake in Pacific Direct for £20 million.
In More Balls than Most Lara charts the outrageous highs and lows of starting up a business from scratch and the many obstacles there are to overcome. Sticking to her mantra of never being afraid to ask, or to make mistakes, she describes how through sheer hard graft and with a seemingly inexhaustible energy, she acquired the knowledge and skills to become the hugely successful CEO of one of the UK’s fastest growing companies and shares the lessons she has learnt along the way.
More Balls than Most covers every aspect of building a profitable business, from learning to display the confidence needed to make those vital first contacts to implementing the creative decisions that will set your business apart from the rest to developing a company culture that will maintain momentum and deliver growth. Each chapter includes ‘Lara’s Laws’ – practical guidelines that will steer you through the challenges a growing company will face, as well as ‘Company Shortcuts’ – invaluable business models for managing and monitoring your progress.
Now more than ever, Lara argues, it is the ‘small, fleet of foot, flexible business models that will be first to markets, while the big boys flounder’. More Balls than Most shares the story of her extraordinary and exhilarating journey to success.
