Albany Beck's James Constable is the subject of our latest 60 Second Interview.
Q - How long have you been in the industry, and what is your current job title ?
A - I've been in the Industry for 12 years, and I am a co-owner of Albany Beck.
Q - Did you have a mentor and, if so, who ?
A - Hard to pinpoint one in particular. I've worked with some fantastic people over the years who have taught me a huge amount.
Q - Are you by nature a pessimist or an optimist ?
A - I try and remain as optimistic as possible.
I think it's important to have a positive outlook - if not for your own peace of mind, but for people around you. Pessimism is usually contagious.
Q - Which business leader do you admire the most and why ?
A - Steve Wynn. He left University after his father passed away with $350,000 of debt in the family business. He took control of the company at 21 and successfully managed to keep it from going bankrupt, eventually turning over a healthy profit.
With this profit he begun to take calculated gambles, investing in other businesses that now sees him a billionaire many times over and one of the worlds leading entrepreneurs and hoteliers. He's also a very colourful character that has attracted media attention for his love (and as a destroyer - read his bio for more info) of art, and philanthropy.
Like Richard Branson, Steve Wynn uses his persona to sell his products and brand to great success.
Q - What's the biggest lesson you have learned in your career to date ?
A - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Q - What's your favourite business quotation or life motto ?
A - 'You don't know who's swimming naked until the tide goes out' - Warren Buffet.
Q - What's the best business book you've ever read ?
A - Barbarians at the Gate by Bryan Burrough and John Helyar
