Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking continues to strengthen its Mergers & Acquisitions capabilities with the following appointments:
- Jan Sanders has been appointed Managing Director, Global Head of Metals and Mining M&A, a newly created role within the Coverage & Investment Banking Division. He has also been appointed as Head of UK M&A. Jan joins from HSBC where he was Global Head of Resources and Energy Advisory. He will be based in London and be part of the M&A Leadership Group* reporting to Thierry d’Argent, Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions and locally to Fiona Paulus, Head of Coverage & Investment Banking UK. The hiring of Jan Sanders as Global Head of Metals and Mining M&A completes the leadership hires for M&A for the Energy and Resources sector.
- François Vigne has been appointed as Managing Director, Head of the Building Materials, Construction, based in Paris and reporting to Thierry d’Argent, Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions. He joins from Credit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank where he held a similar position.
These appointments are in line with the strategy previously announced by the bank to expand its investment banking activities by strengthening its specialist M&A and senior banker teams.

Before joining Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking, Jan Sanders was Global Head, Resources & Energy Advisory at HSBC where he was responsible for significant event transactions across the metals and mining, power and utilities and oil and gas sectors. Jan Sanders originally joined HSBC in 2001 as an Associate Director in the M&A team, having previously been at CSFB and Barings in their Corporate & Investment Banking divisions. Jan started his career at Deloitte & Touche, where he obtained his ACA and is a graduate of QMW College, University of London with a BA (Hons) in French and German.
Before joining Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking, François Vigne was Managing Director, Head of Global Building Materials, Construction, and Chemical sector at Credit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank from 2008. He started his career at CCF in 1995 as an Associate within the team dedicated to transactions on listed companies. Then in 1997 he was promoted Manager within the Investment Banking team of CCF Charterhouse. Two years later, he joined Credit Agricole Indosuez’s corporate finance department as a Director and team leader of the Transaction Group. In 2001 François was named co-Head of the Building Materials and Construction Sector within the global investment banking department of Calyon, before becoming Global Head of this sector in 2006.
Member of the Paris Bar, François Vigne graduated from Institut d’Etudes Politique de Paris. He also holds a master degree in Law and an MBA from ESSEC.
