Nomura Hires Media Team in Americas

Nomura continues to strengthen its Investment Banking group with the appointments of Jerry Kern, as senior advisor, and the hiring of Charles Fisher, Roy Kabla and Michael Pitts to the Americas Investment Banking Media team.

Bertrand Kan, Global Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications banking said "Nomura has the roots and relationships in Asia and Europe and the right team to provide Media clients in the Americas with unique insights and ideas to develop their business."

Nomura is committed to strategically broadening its Americas Investment Banking client coverage footprint under the leadership of Glenn H. Schiffman, Head of Investment Banking for the Americas who, prior to running Asia investment banking, was Lehman's Global Head of Media. Their collective mandate is to harness the power and depth of Nomura's international resources to execute our client-focused, solutions-driven strategy.

  • Jerry Kern will act as a senior advisor to the America's Investment Banking Division, subject to regulatory approval. Mr. Kern has served as chairman, CEO, senior counselor and a board member of various media and telecommunications companies. As chairman and CEO of On Command, the hotel entertainment service, Mr. Kern oversaw its acquisition by Liberty Media. As vice chairman of Telecommunications Inc. (TCI), he was instrumental in crafting the $50bn AT&T/TCI merger.
  • Charles Fisher, Managing Director, has joined the Nomura Americas team. Mr. Fisher was previously a Managing Director in the Media Group in London working on European Cable coverage. From 2000 to 2007 Mr. Fisher was a member of Lehman Brothers' US Media & Communications team based in New York.
  • Roy Kabla joins Nomura from Barclays Capital as Executive Director. He was a member of the Media & Communications Investment Banking team at Lehman Brothers from 2000 to 2008. Mr. Kabla started his career at TD Securities in Toronto.
  • Michael Pitts joined Nomura as an Executive Director focused on M&A, with extensive experience across the traditional and new media sectors. Prior to Nomura, Michael spent 9 years in the Media & Communications M&A group at Lehman Brothers and 2 years as a Managing Partner of Results International, a global Media M&A focused boutique advisory firm.

The team will partner with Emmanuel Hibou, Global Head of Media who is based in London, on cross-border initiatives.
