Who's On The Move - 6th September

Here's the latest on the 'Movers & Shakers' front.

BARCLAYS

Barclays Capital has announced the launch of its equity research capabilities in Asia ex-Japan. This is an integral part of the strategic build out of the firm's equity platform in Asia Pacific, which is one of Barclays Capital's key priorities in the region this year.

Kirk Yang joins as Managing Director, Head of Technology Hardware Research, Asia ex-Japan. He held the same position at Nomura prior to Barclays. Prior to that, he was Head of Asia Technology Hardware Research at Citigroup from 2002-2008 and was ranked #1 by Institutional Investor, the Financial Times and Greenwich in 2004, 2006, and 2007, and has been top 3 ranked during most of his career. He was also the CFO for a Hong Kong main board listed technology company from 2008-2009.

Andrew Lu joins as Managing Director, Head of Technology Semiconductor Research, Asia ex-Japan. He joins from Citibank, where he had been Head of Asia Pacific Semiconductor Research for 10 years. He was the #1 ranked Semiconductor Analyst in the 2010 Institutional Investor survey, in which he has been consistently top-ranked.

Mark Kellock joins as Director, Head of Insurance Research, Asia ex-Japan. He was previously at Macquarie Securities where he was Head of Regional Insurance Research for Asia. Previously, he held a similar position for eight years at Deutsche Bank in Asia and Australia. He was ranked AsiaMoney #4 and Greenwich Europe #4 in the 2009 surveys.

Andrew Lawrence joins as Director, Head of Regional Property Research, Asia ex-Japan. Mr Lawrence was formerly head of Property Research at Samsung and has had a 21 year career in property, including work on the buyside, sellside and in property companies.

Vineet Sharma joins as Director, Head of Consumer Research, Asia ex-Japan. Previously, he was Head of Consumer & Media Equity Research at JP Morgan Chase where he was ranked #2 in the 2009 Institutional Investor survey and #5 in the 2010 survey. Prior to that, he was at Deutsche Bank as Head of Consumer and Media Research.

May Yan joins as Director, Head of China Banks Research. Ms Yan was formerly an Executive Director - Equity Research, China Financials at Nomura and at Lehman Brothers and was Runner-Up in the 2010 Institutional Investor survey. Prior to that she was a senior credit officer for Moody's China financial credit research and a credit officer with Bank of China and with Merrill Lynch.

In addition, Barclays Capital has also recently hired a number of junior analysts to support the research effort. All these new hires will be based in Hong Kong.

The firm has also announced the appointment of Tetsuya Kawano as Vice Chairman and Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking Japan. Kawano joins from Lazard, where he held the position of Chairman of Japanese Investment Banking. At Barclays Capital, Mr. Kawano will be responsible for the management of the firm's investment banking activities in Japan.

He has held a number of leadership roles during his nearly 25 year career. Prior to Lazard, he was with JP Morgan from 2002 to 2007, where his responsibilities included Vice Chairman of JP Morgan Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, and Country Head (President and CEO) and Head of Investment Banking Group at JP Morgan Securities Japan. Before that he was with Goldman Sachs Japan from 1994 until 2002, where he was Head of the Telecom, Media and Technology Group. He began his investment banking career with Merrill Lynch in New York in 1986.

DAIWA CAPITAL MARKETS

Daiwa Capital Markets has announced the appointment of three senior investment bankers to enhance its business in Asia (ex-Japan), further highlighting the company's commitment to growth in the region.

Joining the investment banking team based in Hong Kong will be Thomas J. Jackamo, as Managing Director, Head of Financial Institutions Group, Investment Banking, Asia Pacific Region (ex-Japan); Michael D. Perry as Managing Director, Head of Execution, Financial Institutions Group, Investment Banking, Asia Pacific Region (ex-Japan); and Jeff Walker as Managing Director, Head of Insurance, Financial Institutions Group, Investment Banking, Asia Pacific Region (ex-Japan).

Jackamo is a financial institutions banker with more than 15 years experience, both in New York, where he started his career, as well as in Asia. Most recently, he held the position of Managing Director, FIG, at RBS.

Perry joins from the boutique investment bank Sterne, Agee & Leach, where he was Managing Director based in New York. He has 17 years experience in serving financial institutions as an investment banker, focused on both origination and execution.

Walker brings a strong track record in leadership and operations in the insurance industry. Prior to joining Daiwa, Mr. Walker was the Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Assurance U.K in Hong Kong, where he helped Prudential achieve a number two market share and develop the leading agency business.

DEUTSCHE BANK

New Managing Director and Head of Metals and Mining Richard Gannon has joined Deutsche Bank in Melbourne, capping off a successful hiring phase for the Natural Resources and Infrastructure teams with six new additions this month. Gannon has 14 years of investment banking experience focusing on the resources sector. Most recently he was the Head of the Natural Resources Group for Macquarie Bank based in Europe.

In addition to Gannon's appointment, Ben Macdonald has joined as a Vice President based in Melbourne. He has experience as both a financial and legal adviser, whilst new Associate James Hou's experience includes working in Beijing in the natural resources area and in Sydney for the DUET Group.

Aidan Murphy, Erik Du Plessis and Nima Alexander have also joined in August as Analysts.

The bank has also announced a number of key hires to strengthen its already successful high yield trading business in Europe.

Andrew Jarman has joined the bank as a senior high yield credit trader, based in London. Jarman joins Deutsche Bank from Morgan Stanley where he was responsible for market making in high yield bonds, CDS, leveraged loans and LCDS within its Leveraged Credit Trading and Corporate Credit Group.

Askin Aziz has also joined the bank as a senior high yield credit analyst, based in London. Most recently Aziz was a senior credit analyst at James Caird Asset Management where he provided analysis on the European high yield sector, crossover leveraged loans and CDS.

Both Aziz and Jarman will report to Antoine Cornut, European Head of Credit Trading. In April Deutsche Bank appointed Stephen Byrne as Head of European Distressed Trading and these two new appointments are part of the ongoing strengthening of the high yield and distressed businesses.

LAZARD

Lazard has announced that Pierre Cailleteau will join the firm's Sovereign Advisory Group, effective 6th September. Based in Paris, Mr Cailleteau joins the firm from Moody's Investor Services, where he was Global Head of Sovereign Ratings. This appointment brings additional senior expertise to Lazard's leading Sovereign Advisory business.

Cailleteau, 45, has extensive experience within both the public (Financial Stability Board, IMF, Bank of France) and private sectors (Credit Agricole Investment Bank, Moody's), which will be extremely valuable to the firm's clients, particularly in the current environment.

NOMURA

Nomura has announced the appointment of Indraneil Borkakoty as Head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM), India. In this role, he reports to Nipun Goel, Head of Investment Banking for India, and Mark Williams, Head of ECM for Asia ex-Japan.

Indraneil joins from Kotak Mahindra Capital where he headed ECM. Indraneil spent five years at Kotak Mahindra Capital and prior to that he worked at ICICI Securities, KPMG, and Lazard. With 15 years experience, Indraneil brings an extensive track record in equity capital markets, having managed numerous landmark transactions.

The firm has also announced the appointment of Sandeep Singh as Managing Director, Head of Telecoms, Media and Technology (TMT) for Asia ex-Japan, and Shubham Majumder as Executive Director, Head of TMT for India.

Singh joins Nomura from Citigroup Investment Banking in Hong Kong with over a decade of experience and an excellent reputation in the TMT sector. He has worked on numerous landmark capital markets, leveraged finance and M&A transactions across key markets including China, India, Hong Kong, Korea and South East Asia. He is based in Hong Kong and will report to Patrick Schmitz-Morkramer, Head of Asia ex-Japan Investment Banking, and Bertrand Kan, Global Head of TMT.

Majumder joins Nomura with over a decade of experience as a lead analyst on Indian equities focusing on telecom services, media and entertainment, IT services, etc. From 2007 to 2009, he was rated number one telecom analyst in India in the Institutional Investor Magazine research poll. He was most recently Asia Pacific Head of Telecom Research with Macquarie Capital Securities based in India, where he played an instrumental role in establishing the India Telecoms and Media Research team in 2006. Majumder will report to Nipun Goel, head of Investment Banking for India locally, and to Sandeep Singh regionally.
