One man who is a fan is teammate Emre Can, who says he thinks the Reds need a player like Matip in their team.
“Matip is very good for the side,” he told the club’s official website.
“He’s very good on the ball. He was a leader at Schalke and played many years there. I think you need a player like him.”

With Matip looking likely to be a regular starter for the Reds this season, it will be interesting to see who Jurgen Klopp chooses to partner him.
Dejan Lovren has shown improvement under the German since he took charge last October; while there is also summer signing Ragnar Klavan to consider in the position.
Mamadou Sakho is another option, although he seems unlikely to feature given he appears to have fallen out of favour at the club this summer.
