Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius was partially at fault for Crystal Palace’s first goal at the weekend.

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has backed his fellow countryman and Liverpool teammate Loris Karius to succeed at Liverpool, having signed for the club from FSV Mainz 05 in the summer transfer window. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Can also indicated why he thinks the ‘keeper will improve in the coming weeks.
The German goalkeeper, who is just 23-years-old, was made to wait for his first Liverpool appearance after suffering a fractured hand in pre-season, which kept him out for about six weeks.

And, despite Liverpool’s good record with Karius between the sticks, he has kept just one clean sheet so far in the Premier League as the Reds’ defence repeatedly faltered. Karius’ most recent blunder came in the game against Crystal Palace, where he failed to use his arms to stop James McArthur heading the Eagles level.
But Can believes that as the stopper settles into a new league, in addition to that one clean sheet against Manchester United, he will soon find his feet in a Liverpool jersey.
Can was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying: “He’s a great lad and a very, very good goalkeeper. It’s a little bit different here from the Bundesliga but he’s well aware of that. I think he’s been doing very well so far and the fact that he kept a clean sheet recently against Manchester United is a big thing.
“It is the same if an outfield player scores a goal in that it helps your confidence. If a goalkeeper doesn’t concede, that will help him.”

Despite not putting on the best of shows, Karius’ performances have yet to hinder Liverpool in a big way as they have surged to third in the Premier League table, only behind leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal on goal difference.
