Jamie Carragher has lavished praise on to Darwin Nunez, who opened the scoring in emphatic fashion for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Newcastle United.

The £140,000-a-week striker found himself clear on goal and instead of panicking, he blasted the ball past a hapless Nick Pope into the roof of the net. The theme of the former Benfica forward’s start to life in a Reds shirt has been his staggering wastefulness in front of goal.

But Darwin Nunez put that to bed against Newcastle, with Jamie Carragher singing his praises and well, rightfully so.

Nunez earns Carragher credit for finish against Newcastle in Liverpool win

After putting in a sublime assist for Mohamed Salah against Everton in the Merseyside Derby, which was capped off by a wonderful all-round performance from the much-maligned attacker, he stepped up to the plate against Eddie Howe’s side.

Jamie Carragher took note of this very fact and raved about Darwin Nunez, after he put Liverpool 1-0 up against Newcastle on Sky Sports, saying, “That’s an emphatic finish from a player who needed a goal!”

Nunez ticks almost every box barring his finishing, which makes tonight a big positive for the Kop

Those that tend to stick up for the erratic goalscorer tend to point out that he has a lot going for him when judging his game. Be it Nunez’s off-the-ball movement, directness, pace in behind, pressing and ability to thrive in wide areas.

However, Darwin Nunez, whose finishing has been woeful on a number of occasions this season gave Liverpool fans such as Jamie Carragher a reason to smile after his confident finish against Newcastle.

Now, the versatile forward’s focus must be to ensure that he goes on a run of scoring goals, showcases the same composure he did against the Magpies and proves why the Reds signed him in the first place.
