Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-0 to Liverpool on Saturday night.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League dream ended in heartache last night, as they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in Madrid.
Spurs reached the final after a dramatic comeback against Ajax, and having snaked past Manchester City in the quarter-finals too, some were left wondering whether this was Tottenham’s year.
Those ideas were dented early on, as Moussa Sissoko gave away a penalty inside the first 30 seconds, and Mohamed Salah stepped up to score past Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham were neat and tidy, having plenty of the ball and stringing together decent approach play, but their work in the final third just didn’t hurt Liverpool enough.
Divock Origi then wrapped it up for the Reds, driving a low, left-footed strike past Lloris to secure a 2-0 win, and bring the Champions League trophy back to Anfield yet again.
Spurs fans will be hurting, as they won’t know when on earth they’ll see their side in the Champions League final again, and the anger and frustration was clear for all to see – especially with Dele Alli.

It just didn’t happen for Alli on the night, and when he was substituted, he hurled a bottle at the bench out of sheer frustration, summing up how many Spurs fans will have felt last night and this morning.
Alli cut a dejected figure as Spurs lost, and whilst fans won’t have been impressed with his display, they’ll have no doubt shared his emotional reaction to Tottenham’s defeat on the big stage.
The photo below also shows boss Mauricio Pochettino’s reaction at full time, with the Argentine unable to hold back the tears, much like after the semi-finals, but this time for very different reasons. Spurs fans will now hope that Pochettino can lead Tottenham back to the final, rather than feel he has to move on to return to this stage of the competition.
