Well, what a win that was for Liverpool. Anfield got to see Luis Diaz make his debut, and they were also blessed with the return of Harvey Elliott.
To make things even better, the 18-year-old scored a superb goal in front of the Kop to put the icing on the cake.
It was an emotional moment after five months out with an ankle injury, but seemingly none more so than for the teenager’s father.
What’s the story?
Thanks to Saad Wadia – who was sat behind Scott Elliott at Anfield – we got to see how the wonderkid’s dad reacted to his son’s first competitive goal at Anfield.
You can see the footage for yourself below – it’s a heartwarming video, to say the least.
Clearly, Scott Elliott was overcome with emotion after watching his son score his first goal for Liverpool.
He simply doesn’t know what to do with himself, as his hands go from the top of his head, to covering his eyes, then to his lips as he blows kisses from the stands.
That should surprise nobody. The pair are said to be huge Liverpool fans, and it evidently meant a lot to Elliott’s father to see him score.
Harvey Elliott can be Jürgen Klopp’s Mario Götze at Liverpool
In our view, Elliott can be Jürgen Klopp’s answer to Mario Götze at Anfield.
The German attacker burst onto the scene under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, where he quickly became one of the best players in Europe, let alone young players.
Götze eventually earned a move to Bayern Munich after his £31.5m release clause was triggered, following a 16-goal campaign in which he also provided 20 assists.
The pair are similar players.
Like Elliott, Götze used to operate in an attacking midfield role for Borussia Dortmund, where his excellent positional play saw him hurt opponents in dangerous areas.
So long as Elliott doesn’t leave – which we doubt he will, as he supports the club – then he looks set to become a legend at Anfield.
