Celtic have been without Emilio Izaguirre of late.
Celtic left back Emilio Izaguirre has told the Daily Record that he will be back to full fitness soon having returned to training.
The Bhoys beat Dundee 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to close in on the Scottish Premiership title, before heading off on international duty.
Celtic fans may have been a little confused at the Honduras squad though, as they named Bhoys left back Izaguirre in their squad.
The experienced defender hasn’t played for Celtic in more than a month now, but will be facing Ecuador next week with his country.
The 32-year-old hasn’t yet played for Celtic since Neil Lennon returned to the club as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement, and his involvement with Honduras may have left some wondering just where he’s been.
Now though, Izaguirre has revealed that he injured his ankle earlier this month and hasn’t been able to play since, but is now back in full training.
Having enjoyed a run in the side earlier this season, Izaguirre will be hoping to get back to top form during his stint with Honduras, and put himself in contention under Lennon once again.
“I played in about 15 games from November to February and was enjoying it with no problems,” said Izaguirre. “Unfortunately, I’ve injured my ankle at the start of March and have been missing since. But I am back in full training now and I feel I am ready to take the next step,” he added.
