Celtic are seemingly set to re-sign defender Emilio Izaguirre.
Emilio Izaguirre has told Radio Columbia in Costa Rica that he is arranging a return to Celtic in a surprise move back to Glasgow.
The Bhoys haven’t been hugely active in the transfer window this summer, as their two deals have been to sign loanees Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard permanently, with Lewis Morgan starting his Bhoys career having ended his stint with St Mirren.
Manager Brendan Rodgers will be keen to add more new faces before the Scottish transfer deadline, and it seems that he is on the verge of adding a new left back.
Kieran Tierney may be a star for Celtic, but Calvin Miller is his only cover, and an experienced left back appears to be heading to Celtic Park – and it’s a familiar face for Bhoys fans.
The Scottish Sun reported on Tuesday night that Celtic were closing in on a deal to re-sign defender Emilio Izaguirre, who is a free agent having left Al-Fayha of Saudi Arabia this summer.
Now, Izaguirre has told Radio Columbia in Costa Rica that he is ‘arranging’ his return to Celtic, and has now plans to sign for a club in Central America as he plots his return to Glasgow.
“I am arranging with Celtic to return,” said Izaguirre. “I do not have any plans to stay in Central America right now,” he added.
Izaguirre, 32, made more than 250 appearances for Celtic having signed for the Bhoys from Motagua in 2010, having represented Honduras at the World Cup in South Africa.
The left back was a favourite at Celtic Park before leaving in 2017, and he now looks set to reunite with Rodgers as cover for star left back Tierney.
