The former England striker believes the Leicester City star’s style of play would not fit with Arsenal’s philosophy.
Former England striker Emile Heskey has told the Daily Express that Leicester City star Jamie Vardy would be the wrong signing for Arsenal because the Gunners do not play in the way that suits his talents.
Vardy is currently mulling over an offer from the North London club after his release clause of around £20 million was activated by an offer from the Emirates Stadium club.
The 29-year-old scored 24 goals in 36 Premier League matches as he fired the Foxes to an unprecedented title last season, and there has unsurprisingly been widespread speculation about his future.
However, emerging reports over the last fortnight have suggested that the England star is set to turn down a move to Arsenal in favour of remaining with his current club.
Heskey thinks that will be no major loss for the Gunners as he believes Vardy would not be suited to Arsenal’s possession-based style of play if he did make the move down south.
The former England striker told the Express: “The only thing is they play possession-based football and that means you’re going to have teams sitting back, so that means there’s not much space in behind.
“And he likes space to run into and create goals that way. So it would be very difficult for him at Arsenal.”
Arsenal are in the hunt for a new striker after the inconsistent form and injury issues of their attacking options last season.
Olivier Giroud scored his highest season tally since moving to England four years ago but went over three-and-a-half months without a league goal in 2016, whilst Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, and Alexis Sanchez all suffered with injuries or poor form.
