The ex-Premier League man tips the Tottenham Hotspur marksman to win the greatest individual prize of all one day.
Emile Heskey has told The Star that Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane can win the Ballon d’Or one day.
The Spurs striker enjoyed another superb season in the Premier League as far as individual statistics go.
The 23-year-old hit 29 top-flight goals last term – including eight in his last three matches – en route to winning the Golden Boot for the second successive year.
Kane managed to net four more league goals for Spurs than Cristiano Ronaldo did for Real Madrid, with both making 29 starts, and eight less than Lionel Messi who started 32 games.
He does not have the status in football like those two La Liga monsters just yet, but Heskey claims that modern-day football as a whole does not appreciate out-and-out goalscorers like Kane, who he claims can win the sport’s most coveted individual prize one day.
“Harry Kane can win it. Why not? He’s the most complete striker we have in England and is doing it consistently,” he told The Star.
“Messi and Ronaldo won’t dominate forever. But because of them, it’s all about flair and flash and hairstyles for some younger fans.
“We probably put less value on goalscorers today. But pure football fans still appreciate them. We all should.
“Kane has gone from season to season getting better and better. To do that and still score the number of goals he has is tough.
“Don’t forget he missed about three months of last season and still ended up scoring 29 goals, more than anyone else in the Premier League.”
He is truly a phenomenal goalscorer and the frightening thing is that he is still only 23. There is something majorly wrong if Kane is not right up there challenging for the Ballon d’Or in years to come.
