Mandinha Martinez, the wife of the Aston Villa goalkeeper, has claimed on her Instagram story that the scenes involving her husband during Argentina’s clash against Brazil on Sunday evening are ‘ridiculous’.
Aston Villa duo Emiliano Martinez and Buendia opted to travel for Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers this week, alongside Tottenham duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero, despite Brazil being red-listed by the UK – and the UK being red-listed by the South American nation.
It has been reported by the Guardian that Brazil authorities entered the pitch less than ten minutes into the game to try and remove the four Argentina players, which included Villa’s number one goalkeeper.
It has been suggested that when the quartet entered Brazil from the UK – Martinez, Buendia, Lo Celso and Romero – they were required to quarantine for 14 days and informed to do so by those in charge.
But it seems as though they didn’t comply with the rules and now Brazilian authorities have taken matters into their own hands.
Martinez started the game, alongside the Tottenham duo, with Buenida not named in the squad.
It’s just utterly farcical scenes and one that has now resulted in this World Cup qualifier possibly being called off for tonight.
What’s even worse is that the Guardian has further reported that all of the above players didn’t inform Brazilian authorities, on their immigration forms, that they had been in the UK for 14 days prior to entering their country.
It begs the question, where on earth do people think they came from? And how did the players think they could get away with it, if those reports are true?
Perhaps playing in a multi-billion-pound game, which is televised across the world, probably isn’t enough, eh?!
Not forgetting that Brazil v Argentina is one of the biggest rivalries in football.
Either way, a lot of people have questions to answer here and it doesn’t seem as though this will be the end of it, that’s for sure.
