Both Emiliano Martinez and Buendia both featured for Aston Villa on Saturday as Dean Smith’s side recorded a 1-1 draw against Brentford.

Leading up to the game, and now after it, there has been a lot of talk about whether players from South American countries, especially Villa’s duo, will travel for international duty next week.

Well, judging by Martinez’s Twitter post, he will be linking up with Argentina, as he stated ‘now onto Argentina’.

Argentina is on the ‘red list’ of countries, which means that when players return from national duty, they will have to quarantine in a government hotel for 10 days.

That means that if Buendia and Martinez do go, and if the latter is then there’s no reason why Villa’s club-record signing won’t either, then they will miss clashes against Chelsea and Everton.

The first would be a Premier League battle against the European champions at Stamford Bridge, then a home clash against the Toffees and a League Cup game against Thomas Tuchel’s men again.

Given the depth in quality Villa have in attack, they could do without Buendia’s services.

But Jed Steer, who hasn’t had much first-team football, will have to step in for Martinez.

Martinez’s tweet has got a lot of Villa fans talking, but it’s understandable as to why he would want to go and represent his country.

In truth, with the League Cup game, Martinez wouldn’t have played anyway, so he is missing clashes against Chelsea and Everton.

And the last time Steer was playing regularly in between the sticks for Villa, he was being the hero and helping them earn promotion, so he’s a pretty solid back-up.
