Emi Martinez and Philippe Coutinho have reacted in a positive fashion on Aston Villa’s Instagram to Unai Emery’s first signing – Alex Moreno.

The left-back has completed a £13.2 million switch from La Liga outfit Real Betis (BBC Sport) and penned a three-and-a-half-year contract at Villa Park.

The 2021/22 Copa del Rey winner arrives as competition for left-back Lucas Digne, who ironically enough, was one of Steven Gerrard’s first signing last January.

Villa will play Leeds United on Friday night and Moreno is eligible to feature for the Midlands side, who in their last outing, were beaten by League Two Stevenage in an embarrassing fashion as they were botted out of the FA Cup.

Nonetheless, when Villa announced the news regarding Moreno on their IG, they posted ‘Welcome to Aston Villa, Alex Moreno’.

And in the comments section of the post, Emi Martinez posted ‘Welcome, ace’, whilst Coutinho added fire emojis, as fans expressed their delight at their first capture of 2023.

ASTON VILLA IN POSSESSION

At the age of 29, Moreno has been brought in for the here and now, not for the long term.

The former Barcelona academy product is a left-back that is very good in possession and he can keep things ticking high up the pitch.

Emery has spoken about how poor Villa are with the ball and that’s something Moreno will change if he gets going, including providing competition to Lucas Digne.
