However, the Swiss international’s popularity has quickly risen since Arteta took charge and his importance to the side can no longer be doubted.
Xhaka picked up an injury early on in Arsenal’s first game back after lockdown, and the Gunners badly missed him in his absence.
However, he returned to the side last night, as Arsenal put in a much improved performance against Southampton and won 2-0.
Xhaka has now earned great praise from Arsenal fans on Twitter, and he is quickly changing opinions among the Emirates Stadium crowd.
