Glasgow Rangers midfielder Emerson Hyndman has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he didn’t know Graeme Murty before he stepped into caretaker charge at Ibrox.

Hyndman was brought to Rangers on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season by the Light Blues previous boss Mark Warburton.

However, before he had even really had a chance to settle at Ibrox, Warburton parted company with Rangers.

Warburton left the Glasgow side two weekends ago, with Murty stepping up from managing the youngsters to take charge of the senior squad on a temporary basis.

The American international now admits that he knew nothing of Murty when he first took the reins, but Hyndman has been impressed so far.

“It was tough at the beginning with Graeme being a new face, and for me, I didn’t know him although some of the other guys did,” the young midfielder said.

“We are fully behind him already although that didn’t show in the last game. Hopefully we do him right and put in a good performance.

“He’s been put in a tough position but at the same time he is taking it in his stride and has really got us together and is putting ideas in our heads, and he has worked hard as well on the training pitch. He’s been a credit to himself.

“It’s always a difficult period when a manager leaves. It’s unsettling and nobody knows where their place is all of a sudden, but the fact we have got together pretty quick with Graeme coming in has helped us to settle down.”

Hyndman has made a positive impact at Rangers since signing, and he has made six appearances already, scoring on two occasions.

Rangers won their first game under Murty’s stewardship against Morton, but they were beaten by Dundee in their most recent outing.

Rangers are next in action on Friday evening, when they take on Inverness.
