Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Danny Mills made a ‘nonsense’ comparison with Manchester City on Sky Sports.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Show, the 43-year-old said: “You have to look around and say, well, Manchester City had injuries last season with Laporte. They didn’t lose nine games, they weren’t this bad.”

In our view, and the view of Liverpool fans below, you absolutely cannot compare the Reds’ situation to Manchester City’s 2019/20 season.

Yes, there’s no denying that Pep Guardiola was without his best centre-back Aymeric Laporte for a chunk of last term – the £57 million man is a great player who would be missed by most teams.

However, the Frenchman hurt himself against Brighton on August 31st, but was back before the end of January.

How Mills can compare that to Liverpool losing Europe’s best centre-back for the entire campaign is baffling.

Admittedly, Guardiola lost others for small periods along the way.

However, it never got anywhere close to this situation, where Liverpool are using a backline consisting of Rhys Williams, Neco Williams and Nat Phillips in Premier League action.

Additionally, Mills tries to add credence to his point by saying that, despite City’s injuries, they never lost nine games like Liverpool have.

This is arguably the worst point he makes, as one simple glance at last season’s Premier League table shows that City did, in fact, lose nine games.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying…
