Lee Hendrie claimed on Twitter that it was ’embarrassing’ that Aston Villa’s, Jack Grealish, was substituted by Gareth Southgate at Wembley on Tuesday.
The Aston Villa playmaker was one of the star’s of the show as the Three Lions beat the Czech Republic 1-0 at Euro 2020.
Before the game, there was a lot of debate as to whether Grealish was going to be handed a start by Southgate, after he made only one sub appearance during this tournament.
But with Mason Mount having to self-isolate, it seemingly opened the door for Grealish, who was picked from the get-go.
And inside 15 minutes, he showed why there have been cries for him to start because he assisted the only goal of the game.
But after an hour, Southgate made a defensive change by bringing Jude Bellingham on for the boyhood Villa fan.
And Hendrie thinks he was taken off so his former club teammate, Southgate, doesn’t have to pick him for the next game.
Given the performance from Grealish, especially in the first half, then it would cause a strong reaction if he is dropped for the knockout game next Tuesday.
Mount still won’t be able to play, so there’s no reason why Grealish shouldn’t start in behind the striker.
With Grealish in the side, alongside Bukayo Saka, not only are they bringing attacking flair, speed and intent to this side, but they are also getting a lot more out of star man, Harry Kane.
