José Enrique has taken to Twitter to mock Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte, after six Liverpool players made the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spain international was not named in the PFA Team of the Year, as Virgil van Dijk and Antonio Rudiger were voted into the XI instead by their fellow professionals.
In rather strange fashion, Laporte then proceeded to post his own personal statistics from the 2021/22 campaign on social media, as well as a video of José Mourinho saying: “I prefer not to speak. If I speak I am in big trouble.”
Clearly, the Manchester City No.14 believes he deserved a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
In response to Laporte’s antics, Enrique – who left Liverpool in 2016 – said the 28-year-old was “embarrassing” himself, before adding that he’s never seen anything like it.
You can see the Spaniard’s tweet in full below.
With all due respect to Laporte, we agree with Enrique.
The PFA Premier League Team of the Year is chosen by professional footballers, so he can have no complaints about missing out – surely, they know better than anybody.
Manchester City & Liverpool dominance speaks volumes

Interestingly, despite finishing second in the Premier League, Liverpool have six players in the XI, whereas Manchester City only have three representatives.
That speaks volumes about just how dominant the Reds and the Citizens have been in England over the past year.
In all honesty, more of Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola’s men deserved to be included, such as Andy Robertson and Kyle Walker.

In response to Laporte, if any player has a genuine case to be angry about their exclusion, it’s Heung-min Son.
The South Korea international scored 23 Premier League goals to win the Golden Boot, but could not outmuscle Sadio Mane or Cristiano Ronaldo from the XI, both of whom netted fewer goals.
Laporte is entitled to his opinion, but it certainly isn’t a good look to be posting personal statistics all over Instagram – in our view at least.
