Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:06pm, February 6, 2021) what Tottenham Hotspur players must be thinking about head coach Jose Mourinho at the moment.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, was not impressed by the way Tottenham played against Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday evening.
Spurs were very timid and negative in the first half, although Mourinho’s side did play better and more expansive football after the break in the London derby, which Chelsea won 1-0.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:06pm, February 6, 2021): “I would be embarrassed for the players at Tottenham.
“I would be sitting in the dressing room going to my mates around the dressing room, ‘He can’t rate us. He can’t rate us.. He must think we are not good enough. He must think we are not good enough to play the way we are playing. He must do’.”
Tottenham Hotspur could do better
Tottenham have some wonderful attacking players, such as Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura, and Mourinho needs to make the best use of them.
The Portuguese has a reputation of being a defensive-minded manager, and while that approach has helped him in the past, it is time that he does things a bit different.
Of course, if Tottenham were winning games and sitting at the top of the Premier League table now, no one would complain, but defensive and poor football without results is not good.
Spurs are very much in the running for the Champions League places in the Premier League table, and fans will hope that the team end up in the top four.
