Leeds United’s reported pursuit of Elvis Rexhbecaj appears to be over already.

Leeds United are now facing a play-off battle with Derby County – and their transfer plans will be on hold until they learn their promotion fate.

The Whites lost to Ipswich Town on Sunday, meaning they head into the play-offs with just one point taken from the final four games of the season.

Automatic promotion fell away from Leeds’ grasp over the Easter period, and any transfer plans Victor Orta formed will be shelved for a few weeks now.

One link did emerge last week though, as Bild claimed that Leeds were interested in signing Wolfsburg talent Elvis Rexhbecaj, but faced competition from Norwich City.

A fee of €8million (£7million) was mentioned for the 21-year-old, who can play at both left back and central midfield, with Wolfsburg having to face up to the idea of selling him with just a year left on his deal.

However, Rexhbecaj has offered an immediate response to those rumours, signing a new deal with the Bundesliga side until 2023, committing his future to Wolfsburg.

Leeds’ hopes of signing Rexhbecaj seem to have gone before they even really started, and fans can cross his name of the list of potential summer signings for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
