Stephen Elliott has suggested on Twitter that Sunderland manager Jack Ross should play Charlie Wyke and Josh Maja together in attack.

Maja is one of the best strikers in League One, while 26-year-old striker Wyke moved to Sunderland in the summer of 2018.

Former Sunderland forward Elliott has suggested that the 20-year-old forward and the former Bradford City striker should be deployed together.

Elliott has also named his best starting lineup for Sunderland when everyone is fit.

Promotion challenge

Sunderland are aiming to finish in the top two of the League One table this season and win automatic promotion to the Championship.

The Black Cats are third in the league table at the moment with 53 points from 27 matches, four points behind leaders Portsmouth, who have played 28 matches.

Sunderland have lacked the degree of consistency that fans will have liked, but Jack Ross’s side are still in a good position to finish in the top two.

If the Black Cats are able to sign a couple of players in the January transfer window and then put together a run of positive results, then it could be hard for the rest of the teams to keep up with them.
