Chris Coleman joined Sunderland earlier this month as manager.

The Black Cats currently sit in 22nd position in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League, and have Coleman to thank for pushing them off the bottom of the division following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burton.
Coleman, 47, joined the club after stepping down from his position as Wales manager as he could not secure qualification for next summer’s World Cup in Russia despite reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

Elliott, 37, believes Sunderland have done very well to get their new manager after dismissing Simon Grayson, and is confident that the former Fulham and Real Sociedad manager can push his new side up the table to safety.
“I think the appointment of Chris Coleman is a huge coup for the club considering the predicament it finds itself in at the current moment,” Elliott said. “He is a guy who is used to big players. I feel in time he will prove to be the correct man for the job.
“He has a big presence about him and a good style of playing. I think he will get the team winning again which will ultimately get the team pushing back up the table.”

Coleman will be preparing his star-studded side as they face Reading at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon in the Championship, with Coleman likely to see the game as a winnable fixture as the Royals sit in 20th place under Jaap Stam.
Three points could see the Black Cats rise out of the relegation zone and into 21st place, if Birmingham City lose to bitter Midlands rivals and table toppers Wolves on Monday night.
Elliot, who played for Sunderland for three years between 2004 and 2007, has become somewhat of a journeyman in the latter stages of his footballing career. After spells with Hearts, Coventry and Carlisle among many others, he has just joined Morpeth Town in non-league football.
