Elliot Watt has not made a Premier League appearance yet for Nuno Espirito Santo – does he need to leave Wolves on loan?

Young Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Elliot Watt has admitted to the Birmingham Mail that he would be interested in leaving Molineux on loan in January.

At the age of 19, it seems that the Scotland U21 international is getting itchy feet.

Watt is a regular for Wolves at youth level, making five appearances for Rob Edwards’ reserves in the Premier League 2 this season, but he is still light-years away from forcing himself into Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team plans – something that he is more than aware of.

Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Leander Dendoncker, Romain Saiss and Morgan Gibbs-White are all ahead of him in the pecking order and that’s without mentioning Meritan Shabani, the highly-rated playmaker who signed from Bayern Munich in August.

So Watt, whose one and only senior appearance came in an EFL Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday 13 months ago, is open to the idea of a short-term move away from the Black Country.

“I’d be delighted to be involved in the first team games. But at the same time you’ve got to realise the players that are in front of you,” said Watt, showing an impressive degree of maturity at such a young age.

“Every lad at this club’s dream is to play in the Wolves first team and in the Champions League, as that’s where they’re heading almost.

“If it’s not here then maybe somewhere else on loan. In the future I want to play regular first team football.”

There should be no shortage of clubs lining up to sign a classy, cultured midfielder whose excellent range of passing would see him stand out like a shining beacon in the Football League.

As the Birmingham Mail point out, Watt has been deployed in the ‘Neves Role’ for Wolves’ U23s of late with the Preston-born starlet channelling the Portuguese international with a glorious assist against Arsenal recently.
