Chris Coleman claimed that Elliot Embleton wasn’t ready for Sunderland’s first team last season.

When Chris Coleman was in charge he claimed that it was too early to bring Embleton into his side’s starting line-up.
The youngster played twice for Sunderland last season, but Coleman felt that he was being pushed into the side before he was ready.
He said to the Northern Echo: “Embleton has had game time, it was too soon for him really but it was needs must.”

However, the young midfielder insists that he is ready to make the Black Cats first-team and he wants to prove it over the summer.
“As with all the young players, it’s going to be an important pre-season for me,” he said.
“Nothing beats playing at the Stadium of Light, but to do it with the first team was something special.
“I love playing there so to do it in front of the home fans, who got behind us throughout the game, was something else.
“It was a great experience and I’m ready for more.”

Embleton will be looking to impress a new manager at Sunderland in pre-season, with Jack Ross expected to come in.
Ross is on the verge of leaving St. Mirren to become the Black Cats’ new boss.
Sunderland could be more relying on their youngsters next term, as big changes are expected at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have suffered back-to-back relegations and that could cause many of their top earners to leave, which should create openings for the youngsters at the Stadium of Light.
