Tom Allan confirmed his Newcastle United exit on a permanent basis with a heartfelt post on Instagram – and both Elliot Anderson and Cal Roberts have reacted. Allan’s contract is due to expire at the end of June.

Allan, 22, has spent the last 10 years at Newcastle after joining the Toon as an academy player aged just 12. He has gone on to break though the Under-18 and Under-23 sides, and actually make his senior debut in January 2020.

But he failed to ever earn a second outing for the Toon. That is, despite scoring an impressive 17 goals from midfield for the club’s second string in 59 appearances. Eddie Howe and Newcastle have decided to release him.

Newcastle announced their Under-23 and academy retained list on Thursday. Allan was one of eight reserve players to see they had been released – also including Brad Cross, Mo Sangare and Adam Wilson.

Allan reacted on Instagram with a touching post about his decade on the books at Newcastle. He says that having the chance to play in front of the Newcastle fans was “amazing”, and something he will “never forget”.

Allan confirms Newcastle exit: Anderson and Roberts react

A shame for Allan, who might feel slightly hard done by to not get himself a new deal – or to build on just one appearance for the Tyneside club. It might have been his two failed loan spells away from Newcastle.

At Accrington Stanley, has failed to score or create in eight games. The same at Greenock Morton in Scotland in 11. Ultimately, he has left Newcastle – and starlet Anderson as well as ex-Toon winger Roberts responded.
