According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United have made Elias Sorensen train with the under-23’s rather than the first-team.

Sorensen is regarded as one of Newcastle’s top prospects, and finished last campaign as the development side’s top scorer with 12 goals.

With Salomon Rondon’s loan expiring and Ayoze Perez leaving there were suggestions that Sorensen may finally be given a chance to impress at Newcastle.

However, the forward has been forced to train with Newcastle’s youngsters again, and that must give him reason to seek a move away on loan.

If Sorensen is not being looked at seriously now, then he must be questioning how he is going to break into Newcastle’s team for the upcoming campaign.

Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Yoshinori Muto are Newcastle’s current striking options, and there are question marks over the entire trio at Premier League level.

Newcastle may be making an error by not taking a closer look at Sorensen, but he now needs to go and prove he can score elsewhere.

Sorensen struggled on a loan spell with Blackpool last term, which may not have aided his first-team chances.

But if Newcastle are not even giving him a chance to even train with the senior squad then Sorensen already has a clear indication that he needs to leave on loan, as it seems highly unlikely he’ll get a look in at St. James’ Park next term.
