Elias Sorensen returned to Newcastle United’s Under-23 side for the Premier League Cup clash against Leeds United but the striker failed to prevent the Whites from running out 3-1 winners – and some fans want him back at St. James’ Park.

The 19-year-old is struggling for game time on loan at League One side Blackpool, managing just one cameo appearance from the substitute bench since joining the club in January.

He has been left out of the Blackpool squad for the last two league games and that saw Newcastle decide to bring him back for one night only, to feature in the Under-23 side – which is legal under loan rules.

But the Denmark youth international’s presence could not prevent Leeds from running out 3-1 winners at non-league Guiseley’s home ground. Sorensen posted on Twitter after the match.

Rules state that a player can return to play for the Under-23 side of their parent club if they struggling for game time at the loan club – and Sorensen certainly falls under that category.

Leeds earned their place at the top of Group H in the Premier League Cup with the win and have now qualified for the knockout stages, while Newcastle finished in second place.

Newcastle fans reacted to Sorensen’s Tweet after he turned out in black and white once again, after scoring 16 goals in 19 games for the reserves before going on loan. Newcastle fans were impressed, while some want his loan cancelled.
