Everton were soundly beaten by Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

Toffees new-boy Eliaquim Mangala endured a tough baptism to life at Everton, following his debut during his side’s woeful 5-1 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday, and the 26-year-old opened up on what he was thinking in the immediate aftermath of the game at the Emirates, as quoted by the clubs official website.

The France international has been a much-maligned figure in England, following his £32 million switch from Porto to Manchester City in the summer of 2014, and he certainly still has a lot to prove, if he is to convince his doubters that he is the real deal.

His display away at Arsenal will not have given his new manager much confidence, that’s for sure.

Mangala spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and shared how he was purely focused on Everton’s next game in the immediate aftermath of his side’s defeat to the Gunners:

“My focus is only game by game. As soon as the Arsenal game was finished, I wanted to be ready for the next one [against Crystal Palace]. It is a different situation [from City] but you have to adapt. I am not sorry about that. My first game was against a really good team away from home but, for sure, we are going to improve our game. We will have some good results in the future.”

The Blues’ home game against Crystal Palace on Saturday will be a vitally important one for the club, having won just one of their last nine outings in all competitions, and Mangala will surely be expecting another difficult afternoon, with the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke in good form for the Eagles.
