According to The Telegraph, Eleven Sports are considering pulling out of the UK market after just a few months.
The company is run by Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani and The Telegraph reports the Whites could face potential financial trouble if Eleven Sports shut down their streaming service due to a lack of subscribers.
However Leeds fans should not panic, because the report claims that one way for Radrizzani to offset the financial fallout, would be for the Whites to gain promotion.
The Telegraph claims Leeds are under added pressure to win promotion this season due to Eleven Sports’ disappointing start in the UK.
This could work in Leeds’ favour at present, with the Whites currently top of the Championship.
Taking it up a level
Manager Marcelo Bielsa has said he is not pinning his hopes on a January spending spree.
Given the financial circumstances, Leeds are unlikely to start gambling by making big money bids for players. In an unpredictable league, that would be unwise, although it is one way to attack the situation.
Instead Leeds are likely to continue to focus their efforts as they did in the summer, looking for bargains, like £3 million Barry Douglas, and trying to sign top talents on loan.
Eleven Sports’ situation means Radrizzani cannot sit back.
He does not have to spend big and panic, but there should be a middle ground where all allocated resources are used to bring the right players to Leeds who can help their promotion charge.
The Mail reported in 2017 that promotion is worth £170 million to a football club. That figure is likely to have risen since.
Leeds fans should be hopeful that the reports turn out to be a positive, focusing Radrizzani on the short term goal of winning promotion.
