Leeds United have plenty of goal-scoring options this season but one of them is out of action for around two months.

Caleb Ekuban wasted little time impressing his new fans at Leeds United with some energetic performances. However a broken bone in his foot means he looks set for around two months on the side-lines and it is up to the likes of Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki to act as sufficient back-up when required.

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Ekuban is out of action for at least eight weeks, and that means Leeds are down one impact substitute with the games coming thick and fast.

Sweden's forward Pawel Cibicki vies for the ball during the UEFA U-21 European Championship Group A football match Poland v Sweden in Lublin, Poland on June 19, 2017.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe look set to battle it out for the role as Leeds’ spearhead in the coming weeks, but the Whites will need plenty of options from the bench as the domestic action moves up a gear.

Grot proved during his recent cameo appearance that he has all the attributes to become an Elland Road favourite, while Cibicki was signed on deadline day to add more options to an already impressive forward line.

The pair could well see Ekuban’s setback as the ideal chance to stake a claim for a starting spot in Leeds’ upcoming EFL Cup match against Burnley, while also pushing for more opportunities from the bench.

Last season, an injury to one of their strikers would have been a major blow for Leeds, but such has been their summer business that they now have sufficient strength in depth to cope.

That is not to say their boss Thomas Christiansen will want to see any more long-term absentees. Only that he has made sure he has the options to manage a long, hard Championship campaign, and that can only be exciting for the club and supporters alike.
