Leeds United were linked with a move for Norwich City defender Sebastien Bassong in August (the Mirror) – eight months on, could Garry Monk’s side renew their interest in the Cameroonian?

What’s his situation?

Out of favour and soon to be out of contract, Bassong looks to be heading for the Carrow Road exit door after making eight league starts all season, six of which ended in defeat.

Do Leeds still need him?

Leeds’ back line is the envy of many a Championship rival, although failure to go up could see it decimated this summer. Pontus Jansson is said to be wanted by Premier League clubs, Kyle Bartley – who is only on loan – likewise, while left-back Charlie Taylor is as good as gone when his deal expires. Bassong’s ability to cover both positions could put him on Monk’s radar once more.

Can they get him this summer?

They’ll face little opposition from Norwich, although Fulham, whose manager Slavisa Jokanovic worked with Bassong at Watford were also said to be keen, so Leeds may not have things all their own way. If the Whites are serious about building on what has been, to all intents and purposes, an encouraging campaign, then a move to Elland Road could be among the more attractive options for any Championship player next term.
