Stefan Effenberg has told German outlet Sport Buzzer that it will be “damn hard” for RB Leipzig to keep Christopher Nkunku this summer – amid reports Arsenal and Liverpool want to sign the £62million-rated midfielder.
Nkunku, 24, is in the form of his life. For Leipzig, this season, he has netted an enormous 23 goals in 35 games from attacking midfield – while also laying on 13 assists. Seven goals came in six Champions League games.
ESPN claim that Liverpool and Arsenal are battling Manchester City and Real Madrid are interested in signing the uncapped Frenchman. German newspaper Bild claim Leipzig will sell Nkunku for a fee of £62million.
A summer move is widely expected for a player producing such stats, and Bundesliga legend Effenberg thinks it is going to be near-impossible for Leipzig to keep him. He expects multiple European clubs will take a look.
“It’s fun to watch him. Everything looks easy. He made the difference in the first half of the season. He’s definitely on the list of many top European clubs. It will be damn hard for Leipzig to keep him, despite his contract.”
Nkunku shining: Arsenal, Liverpool have got to chance their arm
Even if he does cost slightly north of £60million. Nkunku offers everything you want from an attacking midfielder. He can play on either flank, as a 10 or an 8 – or even as a second striker. Goals and assists are aplenty.
He is worth the price tag – especially given he is only 23. The chances are that Nkunku will become a France international by the summer and that will only increase his price tag. Arsenal and Liverpool must move, now.
