Everton are reportedly close to signing Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Wayne Rooney’s return to Everton is ‘effectively done’ after a breakthrough in negotiations with Manchester United.
Rooney, 31, came up through the ranks with Everton – his boyhood club – and scored 17 goals in 77 games before earning a move to United in the summer of 2004.

The England international has become United’s record goalscorer with 253 goals in 559 games for the Red Devils, but his last season suggested that his time at Old Trafford was coming to an end.
Whilst remaining as United captain, Rooney was handed just 15 Premier League starts by Jose Mourinho last season, and he appears to have played his final game for the club.
The Manchester Evening News report that Everton and Manchester United have now struck a breakthrough in negotiations, and the deal to send Rooney back to Goodison Park is ‘effectively done’.
It’s claimed that Everton and United have agreed to a deal, and with Rooney keen on a move back to his boyhood club, the move could be completed in the coming days.

Rooney has allegedly gone cold on the prospect of a move to China, and that leaves Everton in the clear to hand Rooney a stunning return to Merseyside.
Having already signed Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez, Everton have splashed the cash – and bringing back Rooney is another big move for the ambitious Toffees.
