Lewis Morgan came off the bench for a cameo in the win over St Johnstone on Wednesday night – and some Celtic supporters on Twitter were thrilled with his performance.

The Bhoys recorded a narrow 1-0 victory away to St Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final, with Hearts their next opponents in the semi-finals.

Leigh Griffiths netted an 83rd-minute winner from close-range to seal the win, while defender Dedryck Boyata was sent off in the closing stages.

Brendan Rodgers’ side earned a much-needed win to ease the pressure on them after some mixed results recently and will hope it gives them a lift ahead of a clash with Aberdeen at Parkhead on Saturday.

One man that will hope to have played himself into contention for that league fixture is attacker Morgan, who was effective when he came off the bench in the second-half against St Johnstone.

The 21-year-old left-winger came on for just his third appearance so far of the season, but proved his quality with some excellent dribbles and a directness that lifted the team.
