Edwin van der Sar has stated on Twitter that it doesn’t ‘feel like football’ after a number of controversial decisions were made during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday.

From Jordan Pickford’s horror tackle on Virgil van Dijk to Jordan Henderson’s stoppage-time goal being ruled out because of an apparent offside, it was a day of drama in the Merseyside derby.

There’s no doubt that Van Dijk’s knee injury is the story which has taken the headlines because Pickford wasn’t sent off for his challenge and now the Dutchman has to have surgery on his knee and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, as posted by Liverpool’s Twitter account.

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Van der Sar seemingly sounded frustrated at how decisions are being dealt with, as he was making reference to that offside call.

It’s not a case of VAR being the problem, it’s how the car is being driven and the car-crash results it is producing.

David Coote was the man in the VAR room when those decisions in the Merseyside derby were made and it has to be questioned what on earth he was thinking when he saw the Pickford challenge.

For Liverpool, it’s heartbreak because it seems as though they are set to lose such a crucial figure for a large amount of time.

It also blows the Premier League title race wide open and surely forces Liverpool to now scan the transfer market for a centre-back for when the window slams open again in January.
