Martin Odegaard is becoming a fan favourite at Arsenal – but Gunners fans may not want to get too attached right now.

The Norwegian was outstanding in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw against West Ham United on Sunday, with his guile and creativity on the ball helping lead a fightback to earn a point.

Add in goals against Olympiacos and Arsenal, and Odegaard is really hitting his stride in the Premier League having joined on loan from Real Madrid in January.

The problem for Arsenal is that Odegaard is only on loan until the end of the season, meaning just as he becomes a fan favourite, he could end up leaving the club this summer, never to return.

He could be reintegrated at Real Madrid, or he could move on elsewhere having starred with Arsenal – and that’s where Liverpool should be looking to swoop in.

The Reds lack midfield creativity at times, even with the addition of Thiago, and Jurgen Klopp may need a midfield re-think when Gini Wijnaldum leaves this summer.

Liverpool haven’t had a number 10 or true creative force since Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona in 2018, but Odegaard can be that man.

He presses very well, meaning he can tick off a major box for Klopp, whilst he can provide the spark that Liverpool’s attack has been needing this season.

If needed, Odegaard can slot in on the right flank too, cutting inside onto his left foot to cause mayhem.

This is basically a similar role to that of Xherdan Shaqiri in the Liverpool squad; an extra creative threat with a dangerous left foot, who can play in a couple of positions when needed.

With Odegaard though, he has more quality than Shaqiri right now, and at just 23, he still has the potential to improve – something that Michael Edwards will love.

Odegaard admitted in 2014 that Liverpool are his ‘dream club’, and with the Reds needing a spark of imagination going forward, this may be the right time to offer Odegaard that move to Anfield, breaking Arsenal hearts in the process.
