Liverpool have been linked with a plethora of new midfielders this summer, and the most recent name that’s cropped up on the rumour mill is Aaron Ramsey.
On the surface, this would be a deal that makes a lot of sense. Ramsey isn’t lighting up Serie A with Juventus, and the Reds need a midfielder to replace Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.
However, this is one that the Anfield outfit must only push through if they’re handed a huge discount on his sizeable wages.
According to the ever-reliable David Ornstein, Ramsey’s current deal at Juventus sees him earn an eye-watering £400,000 a week, and with Liverpool’s top earner reportedly only on half that amount, you can see where the problem lies.
Ramsey may be willing to take a pay-cut to come back to England, but we can only imagine that his demands will still be extortionate. After all, why would anyone willingly walk away from earning over £20m a year?
However, if anyone in world football would be able to to convince Ramsey to take a pay-cut, it’s Michael Edwards.
Liverpool’s Sporting Director has proven himself to be the king of negotiating in recent years, and he’s managed to broker many cut-price deals for the Reds in windows gone by.

The 61-time Wales international would certainly be an asset for Liverpool in the midfield, but they should only consider bringing him in if they can get a massive discount on his wages, something with Edwards would have to work very hard to barter.
Signing Ramsey isn’t the worst idea in the world, but it’s a deal that would only make sense financially if Edwards could pull off yet another masterclass at Anfield.
