It’ll be the end of an era at Liverpool this summer.
Michael Edwards will be leaving his role as the Reds’ director of football after countless incredible transfers.
Regarding incomings and outgoings, Edwards has orchestrated well over a dozen stunning pieces of business and honestly, he’ll be massively missed.
However, if one report from Italy is true, Liverpool are set to open negotiations to sign what could be Edwards’s final player at Anfield – and if it materialises, well it’ll give the Merseysiders an embarrassment of riches.
Well, in defence anyway.
Ridiculous depth
According to Tuttosport, Liverpool are among the clubs ‘ready’ to open talks with Torino over signing Gleison Bremer.
Bremer is a central defender and given the quality that Jurgen Klopp already has at his disposal in this position, well adding the Brazilian to the mix will undeniably worry Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
Not only because Guardiola is also in the hunt for Bremer, but because of the options it’ll give Liverpool next season.
Remember, Klopp already has Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez on the books, with the latter barely kicking a ball in the Premier League this season.
You won’t find a team in Europe with more depth than that, so adding Bremer to the equation would make Liverpool an absolute joke – but Pep won’t be laughing one bit.
Ahead of Edwards’s final few months at Anfield, he’ll very much want to leave Klopp’s squad in a position to dominate long after he has left the club and by getting 24-year-old Bremer, one-half of a long-term partnership with the imperious Konate, well the Reds could do just that.
