Liverpool look set to receive a seven-figure fee without even selling one of their current squad.
The Reds sold Danny Ings to Southampton a few years ago for a cool £20 million, which was a good deal at the time when you consider that Jurgen Klopp had better goalscorers at his disposal.
But it looks an even better piece of business by Michael Edwards now.
In a shock turn of events, Aston Villa announced on Wednesday night that they had signed the former Liverpool hitman for £25 million.
And thanks to a 20 percent sell-on clause that Edwards included in the deal to Southampton [The Echo], the Anfield club will pocket around £5 million.
Done it again?
Okay it isn’t substantial enough to make Edwards and Klopp want to go and sign Lionel Messi, but it’s a tidy piece of business nonetheless and could, in theory, help Liverpool out during the final month of the transfer window.
So far, the Reds have only signed the one player – Ibrahima Konate.
But when you factor in this windfall, combined with the fact that Edwards has already made £29 million from the sales of Harry Wilson, Taiwo Awoniyi and Marko Grujic, Liverpool have made back £34 million of the £36 million that was spent on signing Konate from Red Bull Leipzig.
Yep, the Liverpool man has done it again.
