The Reds signed Ozan Kabak on a half-season loan from Schalke and Ben Davies on a permanent deal from Preston North End very late in the window.
Jurgen Klopp has seen his defensive options decimated this season, with Joel Matip joining Virgil van Dijk and Joel Gomez on the long-term injury list last month.
Central midfielder Fabinho has been playing in Liverpool’s back four for virtually the entire season and it’s affecting the strength of Klopp’s side in the middle of the park.
But it looks like the reigning Premier League champions need not have settled for the inexperience of one of Kabak or Davies had their planning been a little better.
Another name on the club’s reported shortlist was Marseille powerhouse Duje Caleta-Car, who stands at 6’4.
The 24-year-old was willing to join Liverpool but according to The Independent, the English giants, whose transfers are overseen by sporting director Michael Edwards, left it too late and the Ligue 1
Dithering isn’t something you could often accuse Edwards and Liverpool of because they’re more often than not a well-oiled machine but, on this occasion, it does certainly seem like indecisiveness in the market did lead to this one collapsing.
And maybe – just maybe – Klopp and his troops, who are 10 points behind leaders Manchester City, could salvage a bit more from this season had their planning been better.
