Arsenal’s Edu will be one of the busiest men in the world during this January transfer window, and earlier this week, he had a meeting with another Sporting Director in London.

Indeed, according to Record, Sporting’s Hugo Viana came to London to have a meeting with Edu, and we can’t help but wonder what this discussion was about.

This could have just been a social meeting between two former teammates, but given both men’s jobs and the time of year it is, it’s hard to imagine that this was just a catch-up between a couple of friends.

It’s fair more likely that transfers were discussed at this meeting, and while Arsenal fans may be desperate to hear about new arrivals, in our view, this meeting could well have been about a departure.

Indeed, it wouldn’t be a shock at all if Edu was speaking with Hugo Viana about the potential departure of Cedric Soares to Sporting.

The right-back is on the market right now. It has been thought in recent weeks that he would he heading to Fulham, but with the Cottagers stalling on this deal at the moment, alternative options may have to be found.

Sporting would be a move that would make a lot of sense for the right-back.

This is a club that has a huge place in Cedric’s heart. He joined their youth academy at the age of just seven and stayed at the club until 2015 – spending almost 20 years on their books.

He has family roots in Portugal, and he may well fancy a return to where it all started before his career is over.

Factor in that Sporting themselves could be in the market for a new right-back very soon as Spurs up their pursuit of Pedro Porro and this would be a transfer that makes the world of sense.

Don’t be surprised if Cedric ends up at Sporting this month.
